  16. Well after mucking around my system trying to figure out what
  17. I might have installed recently that could possibly cause
  18. prefs:palette to crash, I remembered I had installed something
  19. called "obtainbetterpens" a couple weeks ago.
  20.  
  21. The docs instructed it to be called before IPrefs in the
  22. startup-sequence, which is what I had done.
  23.  
  24. I commented out the line which called obtainbetterpens, rebooted,
  25. and mystically, magically, wonderously, prefs:palette works again.
  26. No crash. There's the colorwheel.

  28. I have written to obtainbetterpens' author with this info, seeking
  29. his input.
